THE GREEN AGENDA Dedicated to the beautiful: Products. People. Planet. As an owner-managed company in the third generation, sustainability is part of the corporate philosophy for BABOR. The Green Agenda contains three main topics: CO2, packaging and ingredients.
You can read more information about the BABOR sustainability initiative in the BABOR Sustainability Report. READ NOW
BYE BYE CO2 The goal: not only to compensate for CO2, but to actively avoid it.The way:Thanks to green electricity, photovoltaics and climate-neutral green natural gas, production at the headquarters in Aachen has been CO2-neutral since 2014. Since 2020, BABOR has had a climate-neutral corporate carbon footprint and product carbon footprint. Together with ClimatePartner, BABOR has precisely calculated its CO2 footprint and compensates for all emissions that cannot yet be prevented through its own measures - both in relation to the emissions that the company and its employees produce and in relation to the company's products. In total, BABOR offsets 8,050,770 kg of CO2 - this corresponds to the CO2 emissions of 2,300 long-haul flights from Düsseldorf to New York. BABOR offsets its CO2 emissions by supporting a wind farm in the Philippines. At the same time, the company promotes the international Plastic Bank initiative. In Haiti, Indonesia and the Philippines, people collect plastic from beaches to improve their income. This plastic is recycled as social plastic so that new products are made from it. With each compensated tonne of CO2, BABOR simultaneously compensates for 10 kg of plastic waste. You can find more information about BABOR's commitment to ClimatePartner.
In the future, BABOR would like to focus even more on avoidance instead of compensation. In the new office building, BABOR relies on sustainability technology and saves 45% energy thanks to geothermal energy, a gas-powered combined heat and power plant (CHP), special cooling ceilings and heat exchangers. The new production site, the BABOR BEAUTY CLUSTER, will be largely self-sufficient in terms of energy. Mobility concepts and reforestation programs in the vicinity of the company headquarters accompany the way there. MORE ABOUT BABOR FOREST
GREEN PACKAGING The goal: All BABOR packaging should be 100% recyclable and the use of plastic reduced by 30%.
The way: Even today, BABOR does not use any plastic fillers in its packages and relies on FSC-certified paper whenever it is used. Packaging developers are currently designing the first packaging from recyclates, avoiding the cellophane wrapping of the products whenever possible and rethinking the shipping boxes. You can find out more about the first successes.

CLEAN INGREDIENTS The goal: All recipes are free of microplastic particles and environmentally critical synthetic polymers. Resource-critical raw materials are switched to certified goods and alternatives.
The way: All new recipes are developed free of microplastics and synthetic polymers. Where possible, existing recipes will be converted to alternatives in the course of relaunches by 2023. If necessary, polymers that conserve resources and are environmentally friendly are used instead. Only certified palm oil derivatives are used and their consumption is also reduced.
#BABORLOVESOURPLANET A cross-departmental sustainability board accompanies and coordinates the ambitious project. It continuously questions processes and develops initiatives for even more sustainable work. This board was installed in 2020. However, the sustainable philosophy has a tradition of more than 60 years: BABOR was founded in 1956 as "biomedical natural cosmetics". Treating nature with respect is therefore deeply rooted in the BABOR DNA. BABOR was one of the first companies to deal with issues such as wastewater treatment and waste separation. The finished cream has been delivered by a "green" postman for 14 years: Thanks to the cooperation with DHL, deliveries are CO2-neutral. For shorter distances, employees get into the company's own BABOR electric car.In spring 2020, eight bee colonies moved to a BABOR bio-reserve in the Eifel. Learn More
